Where am I “planted”

Have you ever met someone that just knows what they want to do in life? That ONE person who has a solid grip on everything from personal hobbies, career path, the exact attire for the big wedding day, to how many children and pets, where to vacation, and how to live each day with goals - Do you know someone like this?

Then there are those that seem to flounder - maybe this is you - going day to day, some days giving the impression you are living your best self without a care, yet other days look more like a train wreck. Maybe you hide it well, but really you are suffering inside?

It got me thinking about myself, what impression do I give, and the real inspiration behind starting my own business. Where am I “planted?” Can I grow here? Is it purpose-driven? Is “bloom/grow where you are planted” really a Biblical concept?

First - Raise of hands - how many think this is a Bible verse?

As I thought about my purpose, my questions, my God-inspired journey, I actually found out that “bloom where you are planted” is not in the Bible (although there are adaptations of the phrase that have similar meanings, such as 1Peter 4:10).

I do love the idea that God gave us gifts and I enjoy watching others employ those gifts and shine in life. Seeing others use their talents gave me the courage to dig a little deeper to understand what my gifts are and how I would like to reach others.

I asked myself, where did the inspiration come from to start a business, dive into a different professional world, and connect with others in a more meaningful way?

Actually, it came from the result of self-reflection and prayer time. My struggle with health issues in most of my adulthood has been the center of every single day. And I had enough. I decided it wasn’t that I couldn’t bloom or grow, but it was where I was planting myself that wasn’t correct.

So, I put a combination of a few things to work for me - my professional and academic experience (and personal experiences), the desire to guide others on their career path in a positive capacity, meeting the right people who would support the idea and listen, and most importantly, the drive to gain control of my health while educating and coaching others with theirs.

It is invigorating and exciting - I am leveraging my “causes” while being my own testimony and helping other write theirs! Some simple habits are the cornerstone to my feeling better, finally being able to start losing weight in a healthy way is pivotal (31 pounds and counting since July), and using my gifts to help others is purposeful.

I read people’s posts everyday. I want to believe that the positive and motivating ones are people living their best self and using their gifts and talents. Please tell me one of you IS the person who is choosing to practice your gift, because that is inspiring!!!

I am truly interested in responses - Do you practice your gifts and talents every day? Are you growing where you are planted?
